Mark was born and raised in Toronto and obtained his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Toronto in 1981.

He relocated to Nanaimo immediately following graduation and after 14 years of working for a number of related companies, founded Newcastle Engineering in 1995 with three other partners, one of whom, Mike Shepherd remains with Newcastle to this day.

Mark was President of Newcastle Engineering from 2017 to early 2022 when he stepped aside in favour of Nathan Trobridge to facilitate Newcastle’s succession plan.
Mark now resides in Port Alberni with his wife Darlene. His two sons also reside and work there.

Aside from spending time with family, Mark’s favourite pastimes include mountain biking, hiking, water skiing, wake surfing and paddle boarding.
